About the Recipe

This apple sauce is naturally sweetened with dates and contains no refined sugars. The celery adds a subtle depth of flavour while contributing beneficial nutrients and fibre. Apples provide pectin and antioxidants, while dates offer natural sweetness along with minerals like potassium and magnesium.

Ingredients

4 medium apples (about 500g), cored and roughly chopped

4 Medjool dates, pitted

1 celery stick, roughly chopped

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

2-3 tbsp water (as needed for blending)

Preparation

  1. Prep your ingredients: Core and roughly chop the apples (no need to peel them - the skin adds lovely fibre and nutrients!). Pit the dates and roughly chop the celery stick.

  2. Blend: Add all ingredients to your blender or food processor. Start with the apples and dates first, then add the celery and cinnamon.

  3. Process until smooth: Blend on high speed until you reach your desired consistency. If the mixture is too thick to blend properly, add water one tablespoon at a time until it blends smoothly. You're after a lovely, smooth sauce consistency.

  4. Taste and adjust: Give it a taste! If you'd like it sweeter, add another date. Want more warmth? Add a pinch more cinnamon.

  5. Store: Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate. This will keep beautifully for up to 3-4 days in the fridge.
