About the Recipe
If you're navigating perimenopause or menopause, you'll know that some mornings your body just needs a little extra love, and this creamy overnight oats recipe is exactly that. It takes five minutes to throw together the night before, and by morning you've got a proper protein rich breakfast waiting for you, no thinking required.
Let's talk about why this bowl is such a good friend to your hormones. With around 30g of protein packed in from the yoghurt and protein powder, you're supporting your muscle mass, which becomes even more important once oestrogen starts to decline, as protein intake below recommended levels is linked to higher body fat and reduced muscle strength in menopausal women. The rolled oats bring soluble fibre called beta glucan, shown in a large review of over one hundred trials to meaningfully steady the blood sugar and insulin spikes you get after eating, helping keep your energy more even through the morning.
Those blueberries aren't just there for sweetness either. They're rich in anthocyanins, plant compounds shown to improve cholesterol levels and lower markers of inflammation, with regular berry eaters showing a lower risk of heart disease, which matters more as cardiovascular risk rises after menopause. The chia seeds add plant based omega 3s, and research in postmenopausal women specifically found that just a spoonful or two of chia seeds raised the beneficial omega 3s in the bloodstream, the same fats linked to mood and brain support.
Your high protein yoghurt is doing double duty too, bringing calcium alongside beneficial probiotics that a review of over a thousand postmenopausal women found helped improve bone mineral density at the hip and spine, really important when we know bone loss speeds up around menopause. And that Jazz apple brings extra fibre and a plant compound called quercetin, with one study finding two apples a day lowered cholesterol and improved blood vessel function over just eight weeks.
So really, this is a bowl that's working hard for your bones, your heart, your blood sugar and your mood, while tasting like a treat. Pop it together tonight and future you will say thank you in the morning.
